Dance for Parkinson's Disease Workshop
Sherry Resh attended the Dance for Parkinson's Disease workshop in Gainesville,
Florida on June 3.
The event organized by
David Leventhal of the Mark Morris Dance Group in Brooklyn New York provided a
seminar to teach dance classes for
people with Parkinson;s disease.
The classes engage the participants' minds and bodies, and create an enjoyable,
social environment that emphasizes dancing
rather than therapy. Sherry, was totally inspired by observing the Parkinson
participants enjoy moving down the floor with
workshop attendees and teachers.
Sherry is currently meeting with community leaders that are in charge of setting
up programs for people with Parkinson's disease.
They are very interested in this program and we hope to start a pilot program
soon. Sherry would also like to thank Molly Schechter
for the glowing introduction to one of these leaders and Isabel Castro in
Fort Myers for her continued support to make this class a reality.
